The cycle of change seems perpetual and impossible to break out of.. The whispering of the Anorexia is so much louder than the voice of reason and recovery. The stupidest thing is that I fall for it time and time again. After years of the same tiresome thoughts and feelings; years of the illness telling me that I am piling on the pounds; that I am 'out of control' and that I look 'normal', I am STILL shocked when the scales disprove it. I am STILL more surprised by the hard facts, figures that plainly contradict the lies.

To Blog Anew or Not To Blog Anew...?
That is my question.
Well... I've already started a new blog... It's different. Less personal. More hopeful. Not about me... about encouraging others who are recovering...
I don't know where that leaves me here. I feel ashamed of my self-centred ramblings here. And yet... It seems like such a lot to just walk away from.
My weight is dropping and my mind is hurtling into the no man's land that sits between life and death. It is achingly desperate that my words can fly the banner of freedom, but my mouth won't be filled with the nourishment it needs. I am afraid that in a few months, my voice will be all there is. An empty echo.
Heard but not seen.

Today...
... tears.
And I'm sorry that I can't feel stronger. I choose to be positive and to smile and to keep cheerful, and yet, alone, I dissolve. Head in hands. Desperation trickling through my, apparently, 'skeletal' body.
I was informed yesterday that I'm 1 kilo off being admitted. I can't have that. Not when I've just begun a phased return to work... not when it'll cost me my job... not when I want to do this so, so badly.
So why then, when I just have to put on a few pounds, am I battling the urge to exercise?
It's madness this illness. A bulging, black mass somewhere in the brain. It seeps and creeps and pushes into spaces, forcing itself against walls of reason and clarity.

Dear Alanis...
... If you think finding a black fly in your Chardonnay is ironic...
... try suffering from Anorexia Nervosa, an illness which is, ultimately, all about having 'control', and waking up to find that the future of your teaching career, your chances of going back to your job, rely solely on the words of two men who barely know you.
Now THAT'S ironic.
(I never got the black fly thing anyway)

For Dear Life

A small platform stands high above the trees. My feet are squashed on the square and I wobble and bend into, and against, the varying winds in my effort not to fall.
I am frightened to even breathe.
I look up and see blurred lines in the distance but I am too scared to focus on anything other than staying balanced.
Those lines are the date of my treatment in the unit and they hang somewhere a space and a half away from me. I try to look up at them, to adjust my vision. If i try to brace myself I'm scared I'll tense up too much and topple.
For the time being, I can only look directly at the scales I stand on, hardly daring to breathe in the precarious safety of the diminishing numbers.
Somewhere in my mind, I am trying to come to terms with the fact that weight gain is going to be inevitable.
Two friends gave me this stone earlier in the week.
I've been holding onto it at night, hoping that somehow, it will sink beneath the surface of my skin.
The battle seems endless and hope is something that I know I need more than any other weapon in my armory right now.
